Good evening Grade 7 Families!

This is just a quick reminder that tomorrow, October 5th, Saint Anne, along with schools across the Province, will be returning to and resuming a cycle of providing school-based immunizations.

Routine School Vaccines

Established Science shows that immunization leads to improved health in individuals and the general population. Vaccines help save lives and prevent serious illnesses.

Vaccines used in Canada are very safe. They are developed in accordance with the highest standards and are continually monitored for safety and effectiveness.

Minor side-effects from vaccines are common but go away quickly. These can include mild fever and some redness, swelling or tenderness at the spot where the vaccine was administered.

If your child is in grades 7 to 12 this school year, they are eligible to receive their routine school vaccines or complete the vaccine series if they have already started them. These vaccines include Hepatitis B, Meningococcal ACYW-135, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Due to COVID-19, eligibility for these vaccines has been extended:

  • Students in grades 7 to 12 are eligible for Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Girls born in 2002 and 2003 remain eligible for the HPV vaccine until August 31, 2022
  • Students in Grade 7 or later remain eligible until Meningococcal ACYW-135 vaccine is received

Please note: Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines require two doses (minimum six months apart) to fully protect against the disease. Meningococcal ACYW-135 is provided as a one-time dose.

As a result of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccines were not offered at school. If you wish to have the vaccines administered at your family doctor’s office, the vaccines are available for your doctor to order from Public Health.

Report vaccinations

Please report all vaccinations received from your health care provider or out of province to Public Health. There are several ways to report your child’s immunization record:
