Good afternoon Golden Star families,
We hope that you and your families are keeping well and remaining safe as we all follow the public health recommendations. Thank you, once again, to all of you who are frontline, emergency, or essential service workers. You are each performing heroic measures and we are all better off for it! May God continue to bless you and keep you safe while you are delivering service to our community.
We have now been away from school seven full weeks counting March Break. We miss our students! We hope they are finding the learning they are taking part in at home worthwhile. We recognize that some of you may be experiencing some challenges with learning at home for various reasons and we invite you to reach out to teachers or to the principal to support or answer any of your questions.
We are grateful to our amazing teachers who have stepped up and provided creative and engaging opportunities to have the learning continue. We are very thankful to our support staff for the behind the scenes work that sometimes gets forgotten. This is just a gentle reminder to ensure that your child(ren) is logging into their class platform (google classroom or D2L) on a regular basis during the school week.
The Umbrella Project Theme For May: Realistic Optimism
This month our focus is on building realistic optimism. We often hear sayings about looking on the bright side of life. Turns out that looking on the bright side can actually help our lives seem brighter. Mix that with a realistic look at obstacles and you have a strategy for success. Realistic optimism mixes the belief that good things will happen with the knowledge that obstacles are a part of life and should be prepared for. It helps us link our dreams to the steps we will need to take to achieve them and helps us create a plan. Success can be challenging and if we defeat ourselves in our minds with a negative outlook before we get started it can really hurt our chances of reaching our goals. Make sure you check out the Umbrella Project website for amazing activities that you can do at home to build these skills with your child(ren).
Here is video showing how optimism helped people learn: Great Big Story
