School Council Mission

The purpose of the St. Anne School Council is to promote a Catholic School community, one in partnership with the home, school and parish that acts in an advisory capacity to the school principal. School Councils are an integral part of the governance structure of Catholic School Boards and are subject to the policy and administrative procedures of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. The Constitution and By-Laws of the School Council are to be placed in a binder, along with Council meeting minutes, to be kept in the main office (St. Anne School Council Constitution and By-Laws Handbook, 2011).

Duties of the Council Make recommendations to the principal of the board or the school board on any
matter. Engage in fundraising activities for a purpose approved by the school board or
authorized by board policies. Use these funds in accordance with applicable board policies. Consult with parents of pupils enrolled in the school board about matters under consideration by the School Council. Submit an annual written report to the principal of the school and the school board regarding their activities. This report must be made available by the principal (see binder in office) to parents of students enrolled in the school. Support the faith development of the school community. Establish and maintain effective communication and co-operation among the home, the school and the parish.

Membership

Membership is open to all parents/guardians of a student registered at St. Anne, the staff of St. Anne, a representative from St. Anne’s Parish and a community representative. Ideas are welcome from parents who do not sit on the Council at any time and can be presented to the Principal or any Council member. Council members have voting privileges on Council decisions requiring a vote. Council shall consist of a minimum of 8 voting parents/ guardians. One parish representative One community representative Three teaching staff (1 primary/ 1 junior/ 1 intermediate if possible) One minimum staff One non- teaching staff The Principal (VP position if exists).
